Where does seagrass come from?

From an eponymous aquatic plant growing in floodplains in China (regularly filling with seawater during cultivation), seagrass is harvested, dried, spun and then woven.

What decorative aspect?

Who says natural origin says natural aspect! This is the case to say since, thanks to its impermeability, the seagrass cannot be dyed. It is therefore mainly available in natural colors around the "beige" color chart (varying according to the maturity of the plant and the climatic conditions of harvest). A palette suitable for creating a warm atmosphere in the house!

The other aesthetic feature of this flooring? Its braided appearance with classic (linear) patterns, in a chevron or checkerboard pattern, giving it an artisanal look, highly coveted ...

You can find seagrass as a floor covering, but also as a carpet.

Where to put seagrass?

As with any floor covering, seagrass has some advantages and some disadvantages. It is good to know them before deciding to fall for this subject!

  • Advantages

Among the non-negligible advantages of seagrass, we find its resistance. It does not wear easily, even in rooms with passage. Its maintenance is also quite simple, as we explain to you in the next paragraph.

We also note that seagrass is a natural coating, rather ecological.

  • The inconvenients

From sea plants, seagrass needs to be moistened regularly to stay in good condition. It is also advisable to call a professional to properly install your seagrass.

How to maintain the seagrass?


Second good news! Seagrass maintenance is particularly simple due to its stain resistance. Result: only water will be needed. Ideally, regularly wipe a wet mop over your surface to give it a clean and help it maintain its natural color, elasticity and shine.

For a more intense wash, the grandmother's tip to remember is none other than soaking the mop of water mixed with half a liter of ammonia and liquid for the dishwasher, before rinsing the whole with clear water and ventilate to dry!

What about stains?

Although stain resistant, seagrass in some cases requires precise and effective cleaning. Among all the tips, we have selected the 3 most common, which will allow you to remove stains from drink, wax and oil!

  • The first tip is to dip a cloth in a mixture of shampoo, water and vinegar in order to rub the stain.
  • For wax stains, this time place absorbent paper on the stain before using a hot iron. Finally dab the remaining stain with a cloth soaked in household alcohol.
  • Finally, on the side of oil-based disasters, we simply rub everything with a cloth impregnated with ammonia!

At what cost?
